Moa

Do you know about Moa? Moa is a big bird which inhabited in New Zealand. Moa is an extinct species and they can't fly but they have strong legs like an ostrich and a cassowary. They reached about 3.6 m in height with neck outstretched, and weighed about 250 kg. Moa was the biggest bird. So, why they became extinct. They were plant-eating animals, so they didn't have trouble of foods. In New Zealand, there weren't any mammals, so Moa's natural enemies were only haast's eagle which was the biggest eagle. But after Māori people land to New Zealand, moa dead out by excessive hunting and deforestation. And Māori people brought some mammals such as mice, weasels, dogs, cats, and so on which are natural enemies of birds. It is one of the causes of the moa's extermination. And those manmals are threatening birds in New Zealand even now.
